| A report on our missions trip to Nepal this past summer. After a month in Kosovo, Kathy and I traveled to Nepal on a short-term missions trip. Our marching orders came from Isaiah 42:10-13, a passage of scripture the Lord directed us to in March of 1994 and we revisited in April of 2006. Isa 42:10* "Sing to the Lord a new song, And His praise from the ENDS OF THE EARTH, You who go down to the SEA, and all that is in it, You COASTLANDS and you inhabitants of them! 11* Let the WILDERNESS and its cities lift up their voice, The villages that KEDAR inhabits. Let the inhabitants of SELA sing, Let them shout from the TOP OF THE MOUNTAINS. 12* Let them give glory to the LORD, And declare His praise in the COASTLANDS. 13* ¶ The LORD shall go forth like a mighty man; He shall stir up His zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud; He shall prevail against His enemies." (Caps are mine.)
For Kathy and me, the caps refer to geographic missions locations. 1. Vs. 10 - "End of the earth" [other than North America] 2. Vs. 10 - "sea" [Adriatic Sea; Zadar, Croatia], 3. Vs. 10 - "coastlands" [Dalmatia in Croatia] or "islands" (NIV) [The island of Ugljan & Camp Cinta in Croatia], 4. Vs. 11 - "wilderness" [Croatia, Bosnia & Hercegovina], 5. Vs. 11 - "Kedar" [Muslims], 6. Vs. 11 - "Sela" or Petra [one reference refers to an Edomite stronghold, meaning Muslims, 2 Kgs 14:7] 7. Vs. 11 - "top of the mountains" [Nepal, the Himilayan Range, 8 of the 10 highest mountains in the world including Mt. Everest] 8. Vs. 12 - "coastlands" again. It's almost full circle! What does this mean for us? More on this in the future.
Now, back to Nepal. So, Kathy and I, in obedience, went knowing it would be a short term assignment. (The door of long-term-opportunity closed months earlier.) We stayed with missionary friends, Ryan and Chandra Jameson from Colorado Springs part of the time and then ventured out to basically pray and proclaim God's glory over Nepal and over the nations of the earth. We couldn't go into the Himilayas as it was monsoon season but we could go up to high places outside of the Kathmandu valley and view the Himilayan range. We went to Dhulekhel and twice to Nagarkot. Every morning except one, the Lord literally parted the heavens and we could see the majestic Himilayas! The nationals said this rarely happens during the monsoonseason. PTL! We spent about 80% of our time seeking the Lord and proclaiming His glory over Nepal and over the nations. In Kathy's journal, she recorded 107 scripture passages we proclaimed over the nations! It was really an exciting time! As we viewed the Himilayas during this time, we witnessed an incredible display on 7-7-07: 1) Two partial rainbows without rain, one after the other, and then a double rainbow...again no rain, 2) A growing and sustained " flock" of golden eagles soaring over a Buddhist temple on a high hill. How many eagles? We counted 38! Aren't eagles solo flyers? We asked the nationals and they said they never saw eagles in a flock...only two at the most.
What does all this mean? We don't know. We only know that there is something spiritually significant about the high places. God continually commanded Israel to tear down and demolish the high places, the Ashtoreth poles, not to build altars or make sacrifices in the high places to foreign gods, for He will destroy the high places and cut down the incense altars. He told Moses to tread down their high places and not to follow after idols set up in the high places. (Look up "high place(s)" in your Online Bible. There are 99 references!) Why this insistence by God? Because the high places belong to the LORD!
Amos 4:13* "For behold, He who forms mountains, And creates the wind...Who treads the HIGH PLACES of the earth--The LORD God of hosts is His name."
1 Chr 21:29 "For the tabernacle of the LORD and the altar of the burnt offering, which Moses had made in the wilderness, were at that time at the HIGH PLACE in Gibeon." Fire came down at Mt. Carmel when Elijah confronted the false prophets of Baal. Samuel made sacrifices for the people on the high place (1 Sam. 9:12) Samuel told Saul, "you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the HIGH PLACE with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying." (1 Sam. 10:5) God spoke to Moses from the top of Mt Sinai! The list goes on....Worship, sacrifices, prophesying, communion with God, destroying satanic forces of evil, displays of God's power all transpired on the HIGH PLACES! 2 Sam. 22:34 and Psa. 18:33 state, "He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places." Read both chapters. Not only does Jehovah Sabbaoth tread the high places of the earth but He also sets US on the high places! Wow! I think that's one reason why God moved us to Coloradoo. Today, the preponderance of false religions have taken the high places of the earth and the church is doing little if anything about it. In Nepal, India, and Tibet, it's Buddhism and Hinduism. In Germany, it's the occult. In Albania, it's the Bektashi sect of Islam. In America, it's Buddhism (at least in Colorado. I can only speak for what I know to be true as an eye-witness.)
So...we simply believe God was pleased with our act of obedience and we leave the results with Him. Psa. 24:1 "The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 3 Who may ASCEND THE HILL of the LORD? Who may STAND in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. 5 He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God his Saviour. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob. Selah" (Caps mine) What a privilege it was to seek Him in the high places!
